How to gather data for Audit and Research of content?

Newbie Question : in Lesson 3 of Content Marketing Research , How do I gather all that data? Derek referred to Ahref , do I need to use a paid version of this ? any alternates to gather such data of RD, Organic traffic etc which is free to use. I am building a website from scratch so nothing to audit there but can use it competitor analysis. I have a limited to no Budget so suggest accordingly. Thanks in Advance.
