Implement push notification with multiple alerts

Business Benefits

Boost your website traffic and engagement, grow your subscriber base, and convert more visitors.

Answer a few core questions to better plan your strategy for push notifications.

  • How often do you want to send notifications? What events do you want to use to trigger notifications?

For example, you might want to send a notification every time you upload a new blog post or whenever you announce a special offer or event.

  • What are your goals from the push notifications?

Some examples include:

  • Lead Generation.
  • Website Traffic.
  • Sales for Promo Offers.

Choose a push notification service, like OneSignal or the Smart Notification Plugin for WordPress, set up an account, and add your website details.

Integrate your push notification service with your website.

How you do this depends on your particular website. For example, if you use WordPress, many services will provide a plugin and an API key you can use. Alternatively, some services allow you to integrate push notifications via Google Tag Manager, or you can ask your web developer to integrate the service for you.

Make sure you find out whether your chosen push notification service allows you to start/stop notifications or begin immediately. If you aren’t able to manually start/stop notifications, consider implementing the service on a test page until you’re ready to go live.

Create segmented subscriber lists in your push notification service based on the sections of your website you want to target.

For example, segments could include:

  • Visitors who browsed a specific product page.
  • Visitors who browsed multiple product pages.

Select the location of the notification signup prompt and enter the text you want your users to see if your service supports these features.

For example, you may want to use different signup text for different subscriber lists or set the notification to appear in the bottom, top, or center of the page.

Determine the type of notification campaign you want to implement, customize your campaign parameters and triggers, and select the time and frequency for your notifications.

For example, you may want to send a push notification every time a new blog post is uploaded to your site or target a specific audience segment with a specific promotion. In some cases, you may want to implement a campaign manually, such as target a specific segment for a specific promotion.

Add UTM trackers to campaign links to track push notification traffic separately in Google Analytics, setup the campaign duration, and start the campaign.

You can run your campaign for a limited time, such as when promoting an offer, or indefinitely, such as sending a notification whenever you upload a new blog post.

Call the URL where the signup prompt appears in an Incognito or Private browser window, subscribe for push notifications, and check with your push notification service to ensure everything is being recorded.
