For example, if your goal is to find a local influencer to guest blog for you, and you want to reach a target audience that is local and interested in sports, your ideal influencer would be local, have expertise in a relevant topic, and have an audience that is interested in sports. If you find a local influencer that only fits some of these criteria, you may still want to include them in your list for future opportunities.

Check location tags on Instagram, Facebook, and other social media platforms for people who tag themselves in locations important to your business.
View the profiles of people who consistently tag themselves in locations like your city, your brick and mortar store location, or festivals and events where your target audience congregates. Most major social media platforms allow you to look up a location to see who was recently there and tagged themselves in that area.
- Start by searching hashtags that use your city or region, like #Denver.
- Add on a keyword related to your industry or niche, like #DenverFoodies or #DenverCafes.
- Review the resulting list of accounts to see who is consistently using these hashtags and posting content locally. Some platforms +will also show you a list of related hashtags.
For example, if you’re a Denver-based restaurant, you might look up Denver restaurant blog.
Here are similar keywords to search for:
- Best [your niche] in [your area] because many bloggers do regular best-of lists.
- [your niche or product type] reviews in [your area] since many bloggers like to review local services, products or locations.
- [your location] [your niche or topic] influencer to find blogs run by influencers.
Scan the resulting websites to see if these blogs or websites link to their social media accounts. Use a tool like SEOquake for metrics on the domain authority and engagement of the blog. If these blogs have regular contributors or authors, search for those individual writers’ social media accounts too.

Unless your brand is targeting a wide region or a populous city, many local influencers are micro influencers with fewer than 100,000 followers but are active in their community, well-respected by those in their niche, and have an engaged audience.
- Regular social media activity: Ideally posting once a day.
- High user engagement with lots of shares and comments: Follower numbers and like counts can easily be purchased and falsified, so don’t rely solely on follower or likes metrics.
- Content, voice, and personality that aligns with your brand.
Start interacting with the local influencers by engaging with their content before reaching out to them.
Follow their accounts, share their content, or leave a comment on their recent posts or blogs. If they interact with other local influencers, you may get leads on other potential influencers for your brand.
