Get started with Google Cloud platform

Business Benefits

Spend less time on reporting and perform advanced data analysis on raw data.

Log in to Google Cloud using your Gmail account, accept all terms click on Agree and Continue.

If you’ve never created a Google Cloud project before you will see this page:

Choose a clear project name to make it readable for everyone, choose your organization (if you have one), and click create to create the project.

You will see that you need to choose a project, but if you don’t have one you will need to create it.

Organization is available for Google Workspace and Cloud Identity customers.

Search for BigQuery in the Search bar or in the side menu, and pin it if you’ll use it frequently.

You will get to this page where you can see your current activity and resources used.

The BigQuery sandbox lets you test BigQuery without adding your credit card to your Google Cloud project.

The sandbox has its limitations: 10 GB of active storage and 1 TB of processed query data per month; any tables, views, or partitions in partitioned tables automatically expire after 60 days; and it doesn’t support streaming, data transfer, or DML.

Activate the free trial with a credit card if you want to go beyond the BigQuery sandbox limits.

This will activate the free trial with $300 credit for your tests. Click on Activate in the right corner of your screen and enter your information. GCP accepts only credit or debit cards; no other payment options available.

After adding your credit card you will not see Sandbox in your BigQuery; this means that you have no limits, and you can start using all the power of BigQuery.

Go to Billing > Budgets & alerts to set up alerts if your Cloud project starts to consume too much.

Click on Create Budget

Give your budget a name, choose the projects and services related to this budget. For example, you can have one budget for only one company and for its BigQuery consumption:

Choose the amount of your budget and alert threshold rules. You may want to choose a budget to follow how you stick to it during the month. GCP will not block services from running even if your budget is exceeded. Set a budget threshold so you’re alerted if your expenses approach your monthly budget. 50% and 90% are common thresholds.
